You have likely seen hand tool sockets at your local market. A socket is a shiny, cylindrical form that features some grooves and a brand mark.
In fact, there are several types of socket, and these are classified by their form of driving power:
Chrome Socket, by hand with ratchet handle or other drive hand tools
Impact Socket (Power Socket), by impact wrench with source from electronic battery or air compressor. To find out more about impact wrenches, please refer to this article on air and power impact wrenches: "Which Brand Provides the Most Powerful Impact Wrench?"
At one end of a socket is an opening shaped and sized to fit over the common male hexagonal head of a fastener. At the opposite end is a standardized square recess, into which the socket wrench's drive is inserted. Drives come in various sizes and sockets are sized accordingly. Male sockets are also produced, and these are commonly referred to as Bit Sockets.
